A Floral Statements Thanks

The Floral Statements stamp set has such beautiful images with sentiments built in, and are perfect for some basic colouring using the Stampin' Blends markers. I know I should be making Christmas cards, but I am a huge procrastinator and this year time of year I find I am needing several thank you cards so I couldn't resist inking up this gorgeous image.

The roses were coloured using both shades of the Daffodil Delight Blends. I started with the lighest colour then added the darker to build depth into the image. I did the same with the leaves using the Old Olive Blends. It is important to remember to use the Thick Whisper White card stock and stamp using Memento ink, when using the Blends.

The image itself is so pretty on it's own, that I didn't want to overwhelm it with busy DSP and a lot of embellishments. So I backed the main image panel onto a soft subtle leaf pattern from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP. To finish it off I added a Metal Rimmed Pearl. A very simple card that took less than 20 minutes to make, but I think it turned out really pretty. Just goes to show that you don't need a ton of product or time to create:)

This card design is perfect for using up those scraps of DSP. A very simple layout that is perfect no matter the theme. I am pretty sure that the Painted Harvest stamp set from the Holiday Catalogue will be one of my most used sets and I was so happy to find out it will be carried over. It is definitely a must have. 

If Life Gives You Lemons....

Sometimes there are days when I think "really, this can't be happening, right?". I know you know what I am talking about. You wake up early and as you drag yourself out of bed you manage to stub you toe on the corner of the bed frame, then while trying hard not to scream out loud every expletive that runs through your head, you get to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth only to knock the tooth paste cap off the sink counter into the toilet. Yup, I have had more days start like that or some version of that more than I care to recount. So that is why when I saw this stamp set in the Annual Catalogue I had a little chuckled and knew I needed to order it:)

One of the best parts about this set is that there is a matching punch and coordinating sentiments to go inside the card as well. The 1 3/4 Circle punch will also punch out the orange slice.

How cute is this card?! I was totally inspired by the catalogue sample to use the Layered Leaves Textured Embossing Folder. The dry embossed leaves on Lemon Lime Twist cardstock create the perfect background for the fun citrus images. I only added two thin strips of DSP because I wanted the fruit images to be the focal point, and don't you just love how this sentiment fits so perfectly on the lemon?

As I had mentioned earlier, the perfect sentiment for the inside of the card too!

Sometimes I have bad days and I sit and reflect on what is happening in the world and to those around me. This usually  helps put things into perspective, but then there are other days that I want to chuck those lemons (and other things) and that is okay too;)

Oh Snap!

Okay so I am the first person to admit I am not to savvy when it comes to social media, especially Snap Chat. Actually I didn't even have Snap Chat until last week when I had 5 hours at the airport to wait around and I thought it might be fun to download the app and try and figure it out. Ummm well that turned into a phone call to my 18 year old daughter, lol with me asking her to walk me through it! I am sure to the people around me in the airport it was quite comical. I honestly wanted it for the fun filters, plus did you know there is a filter on there that makes you look amazing?! Seriously, it's like you, but better. Anything that can make this tired looking, mother of three and 40+ year old look good, sign me up;)

Anyway my daughter thinks it's hilarious to snap photos of me when I am not looking and adding ridiculous filters that, let's just say aren't very flattering. So a few weeks ago I decided to humour her and take a few selfies together. Which resulted in the following photos and scrap page. 

For this traditional 12x12 page I used a collection of products from the Naturally Eclectic Suite (p.132&133 in the Annual Catalogue). The patterned papers in DSP (Designer Series Papers) are colourful, fun and have a watercoloured feel to them. I layered several of the patterns for this page to create a sense of fun and whimsy. The title was created by cutting out some of the DSP with the Large Letter Framelits and I left some space below the "OH" for journalling.

The images and sentiments from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set were used to stamp a background and create the word strips under the photos. The embossed Lemon Lime Twist Heart was created using the Eclectic Layers Thinlits and then cut out using Paper Snips.

All in all a relatively simple page but I love how it turned out and I am happy to have captured these moments in photos and am able to relive them forever because I actually got them printed and put down on paper. I have always loved scrapping but it had kind of fallen to the way side as life got busier and busier over the past few years. But now more then ever I am realizing the importance of capturing and recording these moments.

Feeling Fancy! Fancy Friday Blog Hop

Today I am super excited to share with you that I am now part of the Fancy Friday Blog Hop! (insert squeal here). For those of you that may not be familiar with Fancy Friday it is a blog hop made up of past or current Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team members. To say that this hop is full of amazingly creative geniuses would be an understatement and I was in shock and humbled when Cindy Schuster asked if I would like to join. So welcome to this month's hop and hope you enjoy all of the inspiration along the way.

This month we worked with a sketch design by the fancy Jennifer Timko 

 I love working with sketches, they are always such a great creative jumping off point. Sometimes my finished project looks alot like the original sketch and other times not so much,lol. I think this time I stuck to it pretty closely while still adding my own twist.

When creating a card I usually start with choosing my colour scheme first. This particular pattern of DSP from the Quilted Christmas pack caught my eye immediately, I just love the mix of traditional and nontraditional colours. And would you believe I have yet to create any Christmas cards this year?! I know, I know I need to get on it! For the main image I watercoloured with my SU! inks ink Blushing Bride, Lemon Lime Twist and  Pool Party. I first stamped my sentiment then I lightly washed the colours across the piece of Shimmer White using an Aqua Painter. I kept the card pretty clean and simple and layered a piece of a doily to reflect the scallop edge in the sketch.

I am Thankful

I have just return from Stampin' Up's OnStage Live Event in Salt lake City and to say my heart is full would be an understatement! I got to spend time with some of my favourite people and meet many new friends that I know will be life long. The theme of this years convention was Live It. Love It. Share It. and I can say with all certainty that that is what I intend to do! 

One of the best things about Stampin' Up! for me has been the lasting friendships that I have made over the years and one of those would be with the amazingly talented Connie Collins.

Not only did I get to give her a great big in person hug after 6 years of not seeing her, I got to be her roomie and spend as much time as possible that we could cram in together over the course of 4 days. The photo above shows the bracelet and card that I gave her. I also got to share in the joy of her being named to the Artisan Design Team for the 4th time (she is the first demo ever that has been named to the team that many times!). 

Here is the full view of the card. I used the Painted Harvest Stamp Set, coordinating DSP and matching Leaf Punch.

I also gave my amazing upline Jenille Pauls the same engraved bracelet and created a similar card using the same supplies. It was so great travelling and spending time with her. She truly is such a wonderful upline and more importantly a caring and supportive friend. I was ecstatic to find out that of the over 4000 demonstrators in Canada she ranked 45th!

New Stampin' Blends!

Today is the day that Stampin' Up! has released their new alcohol markers! As I demonstrator I got early access to ordering them (just one of the many perks) and had a chance to play around with them while attending a creative retreat a couple of weeks ago. It had been several months since my supplies have seen any use, but I think I have finally gotten my creative mojo back and I can't wait to share some up coming projects with you:)

I love that I was able to create two different cards with the same supplies. 

I stamped the image using Memento Ink (this is the ink that needs to be used with alcohol markers) on 3 pieces of Thick Whisper White then die cut out the center of one of them with an Oval die from the Stitched Framelits. I coloured one of the images with the Calypso Coral  and Old Olive combo pack of Blends and then used the negative as a card front layered on top of the image with Dimensionals.

For the second card I coloured the die cut image using the Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive Combo Pack of Blends and attached it directly on top of the other stamped image to create this fun spotlight technique. 

Two very simple cards but I love how the Stampin' Blends help give depth and dimension to the coloured images. They will definitely become one of my regular go to products.
