Part Of My Story

Well here we go with my first blog post of 2019! Not going to lie, 2018 was a year of challenges, health issues and some trying times for our family, so we gladly welcomed in the new year with a positive mind set and are looking forward to some positive changes. 

Speaking of the New Year and new beginnings, I get to finally share a project with my brand new Stampin' Up! Artisan Team Watermark!!! I apologize in advance for the excess usage of exclamation marks in this post.

The new Sale-A-Bration stamp set Part of My Story is a must have. I literally squealed when it was reveal at on OnStage in November and as luck would have it, I won it during Prize Patrol! (this happens through out the day at the convention where different new stamps sets and products are given away).

It's been quite some time since I have shared my Stampin' Up! story, so what better time then now as I am going into 2019 with big crafty goals and full of excitement! 

My journey into papercrafting started in the fall of 2007 when attended my very first Stampin’ Up! workshop that a friend was having. I had never done any stamping or cardmaking before and honestly just went to be polite. After that first encounter with ink, paper, and stamps, I was hooked and wanted everything in the catalogue! I remember very clearly how I cut my paper wrong for the make and take, stamped the image and sentiment crooked, but still was so pleased with what I created. What was a girl to do but to sign up right there and then?! (just to get the discount, of course;) I quickly added scrapbooking to my newfound obsession. I try to remember and share this part of my story every time I stamp with a new friend, hold a class or especially when someone says to me that they aren't creative or could never do what I do. I believe everyone is creative and just needs the right opportunity to bring it out.  

I have met some of the most incredible people over the years, some who I can't even imagine where I would be without them. I have also had many amazing opportunities. In 2011, I had the honour of being chosen as an Artisan Award winner, literally a dream come true. It paved the way for other exciting paper crafting opportunities, but my heart always belonged to Stampin’ Up! After taking a break from being a demonstrator in 2012, I signed back up in 2016. I found my tribe again and I have no intention to ever lose it. I love being able share my passion with others and help them bring out their own creativity. To be named part of of the 2019 Stampin' Up! Design Team, well there are not enough words to describe how very excited I am to work with this group of phenomenally creative women.

So that is my SU! story and I am so lucky to have so many people be part of it. That was my thought when creating this card. As I mentioned earlier the sentiment comes from the Part of My Story stamp set that you can earn for FREE with a minimum $60 (Canadian) purchase. It is full of unique sentiments to let some one know you care.

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base then added a matted layer of one of the papers from the gorgeous Tea Room Designer Series Paper Packs and popped it up with Dimensionals. For the focal point I created a cluster of embellishments using the Starburst Punch, some Linen Thread, Sequins and the Butterfly Elements (another SAB item that can be earned for FREE) I also used the beautiful Butterfly Gala that includes the stamp set and coordinating punch. The sentiment was stamped on a die cut stitched rectangle (another must have) that had been stamped with a butterfly. The adorable little butterfly was stamped and punched out then adorn with a few pearls.

A Friendly Valentine

I am so excited to share with you a little project that I created for Stampin' Up!'s Facebook Page. With it being Valentine's Day next Tuesday the Artisan Award Winners were asked to share some love:) Make sure you check out what other "lovely" ideas they came up with HERE 

The whole idea of this project is that Valentine's Day does not have to be just for kids and couples. I created this card and candy bag to give to some of my friends to let them know they are loved and appreciated. Do you remember when you were a child and how fun it was to make hand make Valentines for all your friends? My favourite ones were the kind that you could color in. For my project I decided to create a “grown up” version that I could color. I am in love with the gorgeous color palette from the Attic Boutique Designer Series Papers and the sweet image from the Greeting Card Kids Stamp Set is perfect for water coloring.  Using an Aqua Painter with various ink pads I was able to channel my inner child and what Valentine’s project would be complete with out candy? The new Labels Collection Framelits make the perfect bag topper for Stampin’ Up!’s Cello Bags.

It is hard to tell from the photo but I put a dab of Crystal Effects on the heart to make it look like the cinnamon hearts in the cello bag.

A Simply Adorned Christmas

Wow, where do I even begin? Gee, have you guess that I have not had much time to stamp lately?  I had yet another child home sick yesterday (this time my son) and I am about to buy shares in Lysol so I can bath everyone in it and hopefully get rid of the germs-yuck:(

Anyway enough whining from me, we have a great challenge over at Stampin' Royalty this week - Anything But a Card. And I thankfully had something I made a while back that fits perfectly with the challenge:) Stampin' Up! had asked this years Artisan Award Winners to create a holiday project for their Facebook Page and I had created a Christmas ornament using the Simply Adorned Line of products. The ornament also fits in with the current challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments, so yay I get to play a long with some more of my blogging friends:)

I wanted the box to be just as pretty as what was on the inside so I just had to add some of my favourite things to it-ribbon, stampin', punching and pearls:) I stamped the Hello, Doilly Background on the lid of the box in Versa Mark then heat embossed it with Wild Wasabi Embossing Powder, crumpled and ruffled some Very Vanilla Seam Binding then added a tiny poinsettia that was created using the Boho Blossom Punch.

Here you can see it hanging on a tree, not exactly a christmas tree but when I was taking the picture I needed to find something to hang it on so I figured the cedar in my backyard would make a good subsitute,lol!

Artisan Award Winning Project # 10 Blog Hop Day 10

Well my friends, today I am sharing the last of my Artisan Award projects. It was fun to revisit each project with all of you (and try to remember exactly what I did to make each of them,lol!). I have really enjoyed looking at everyone else's projects and reading all the little details that went into making each one, details that are so easily missed when you are looking at them from 8 feet away.

The last project that I am sharing today is my final 3D. Now I think I know where my strengths and weaknesses lie when it comes to my skills in paper crafting. I am am not a 3D rock star like my fellow Artisan winners. So I knew when I was figuring out what I was going to make that it would not be some phenomel structure or amazing sewing project. I knew it had to reflect me and what I was capable of and hopefully that would be enough. I decided to focus on trend, composition, and trying to use something in an innovative way.

So I created this banner and added my favourite-Pinwheels!

I know it would be so much better if I had a picture of it hanging up,but.... you guessed it this was taken at the UPS store right before it was sent off! Now please do not think that I did not put a lot of time and effort into my projects because some were created last minute-it is just how my brain works:) I see something in my head and then create in spurts. Fortunately for me the 3D projects just came to me and I was then able to sit and create them. Trust me in the days leading up to that final night I did not think everything would be finished on time.

So on to the banner! I used the now retired Pennant Die and instead of placing the scored side of the card stock to the left, I placed it to the right so it created a forked pennant rather then a triangular one. The pennant was made from Textured Pacific Point card stock and then I decorated it with pinwheels made from the Celebrations Designer Series Paper and matching Quick Accents. The letters for the word PARTY were created in My Digital Studio using the Broadsheet Alphabet Download, I added a drop shadow to each letter in Pacific Point to help make the letters pop. One of the best things about My Digital Studio is that you can resize any of the stamps. So I was able to create the letters large enough for my banner and colour match my card stock-love it!

Artisan Award Winning Project #9 Blog Hop Day 9

Wow here we are on day 9 of this year's Stampin' Up! Artisan Blog Hop. Today I am sharing the last of my card entries. This one was so much fun to create as it has TONS of sponging, destressing, misting, tearing, bleaching and embossing going on:)

I started with a Naturels Ivory standard size card base and stamped it with the Woodgrain Background stamp. Then using the Destressing Essentials Tool Kit I sanded the whole card. Next I used the Tea stain ink and some water along with the flat rubber stamp from the kit a rubbed it all over. 

The main butterfly image is actually from the First Edition Designer Series Paper and I used some ink pads and a Blender Pen to lightly colour it. The Crumb Cake piece of card stock was stamped with the cherry blossoms from Easter Blossoms and clear embossed. Next I took my Aqua Painter and filled it with Bleach then "coloured" in the blooms. I love how they bleached out.

I really wanted to use some of the Springtime Vintage fabric on at least one of my entries and since I am not a real sewer I opted to add it to my card. I sponged it then pleated it under a strip of card stock that was also pleated and punched out using the Scallop Dotted Ribbon Border Punch. The sentiment is from Word Play and I thought it was very fitting for a Butterfly themed card. It was stamped on a piece of Wood Sheet and clear embossed then sponged over with Soft Suede Ink. Even the piece of First Edition DSP that I chose is about butterflies and their metamorphosis.

Artisan Award Winning Project #8 Blog Hop Day 8

Well here we are on day 8 of the Stampin' Up! Artisan Award blog hop, so far between us we have shared 64 projects! Hmmm with only 3 projects left I was trying to decide what to show next, but finally decided on one of my cards. This one was the last card that I made and again it was made the night before I shipped my package off so I appologize for the poor picture but again it was taken in the UPS store!

This wedding card looks so much better IRL. I also had stamped and decorated the inside but I was in such a rush that day that I didn't get a picture of it. The base of the card is Basic Gray Textured card stock and the card measures 3x6. I tried to create several different sizes of cards for my entries. I layered on a piece of Basic Black Textured then an embossed layer of Sahara Sand. I die cut the black Scallop Heart Embosslit, then punch out another heart with the Full Heart Punch from Shimmer White Card stock. Next was what took the longest! I punched out several little flowers from Shimmer White then carefully placed them all over the heart; covering it. Then I used my Paper Piercer and placed mini Pearl Jewels in the center of each flower. Now if you looked closely at the photo you can see that one of the pearls is missing! I didn't realized it until I got home and uploaded the photo to my computer-I could have cried, but I guess it was not detrimental in the end:) To make the sentiment a strong focal point I punched out 2 flowers from Pretty in Pink then place the tag under it.

Artisan Award Winning Project #7 Blog Hop Day 7

 Here I am back again today sharing another one of my Stampin' Up! Artisan Enteries:) And just to break things up a little I will be back tomorrow morning with my DT sample for Try Stampin' on Tuesday.

Today I am sharing the last of my 3 scrapbook pages, it is of my oldest daughter. This year when I entered each one of my children got there own page:) Trust me I am sure there would have been a little complaining if it wasn't that way,lol!

 These pictures were taken while visiting my dad in Ontario. We had such a fabulous day at the beach that I just smile everytime I look at the photos from that day. I absolutely love the look of pinwheels and knew that it would add a fun whimsical feel to the page. I used one of the die cut pages from the now retired Nursery Suite Specialty Paper. The patterned papers on the page are also from this pack.To create the banner I used some medium Paper Dasies and glued them on some Linen Thread. I also took a larger daisy and coloured it with some Regal Rose Ink and my Aqua Painter and placed it in the the center of my pinwheel along with a Jumbo Chocolate Chip Brad.

 As part of the requirements for the Contest all scrapbook pages must include journaling, now I am not one for lots of stuff on my pages and I liked the very clean look of this page so I made a hidden jounaling pocket behind the smaller photo. I tend to create hidden journaling on most of my pages especially if I have a lot to say. (which is most of the time,lol!)

Artisan Award Winning Project #6 Blog Hop Day 6

 

So for those of you that have been following a long these past few days, we have certainly seen a lot of fabulous projects. For those of you that may be here for the first time; thank you for visiting  and to give you an overview, the Stampin' Up! Today I decided to share with you another one of my card entries:

 I know this card may look pretty clean and simple but there was actually a lot of steps involved in creating it. The base of the card is a 5 x 5" Chocolate Chip square. I dry embossed it with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder and the Big Shot. Because the card is bigger then a standard size card base I lined up the base and embossed it again so that all parts of it had the polka dots design.

 
 I am not sure if you can tell or not from the photo but each baby onesies were stamped first on the Very Vanilla card stock then again on Watercolour Paper and cut out. I water coloured the imagaes with my Aqua Painter, Markers and Classic Ink Pads. The colour blocked panels were stamped tone on tone with images from the Baby Bundle stamp set. The whole front panel was attached to the card base with Dimensionals for added depth.

 For the inside I added the cute baby and carriage and watercoloured it. The sentiment is from the Full of Life Stamp set.

Artisan Award Winning Project #5 Blog Hop Day 5

 

Wow we are already half way throught the Artisan Award Blog Hop! I know I certainly have been blown away by all the amazing projects that have been posted. If you have been following along you should have arrived here from the talented Laura Mellinger's blog, and if not there is a full list of all of the blog's at the end of this post. Thank you again for taking the time to visit us on this hop and we hope we have inspired you a little:) As I have mentioned earlier in the week, I really encourage those of you that are interested in entering Artisan to really go for it this year and enter! It has been an amazing experience so far and I can not wait to see what the rest of this year has to offer.

Today I decided to share one of my 3 D projects. Now those of you that know me know that I tend to procrastinate, so when I confess that this next project was done the night before I shipped my package off you may not be surprised:) I do work best under pressure and although I had  this idea for this project weeks before completing it, it did not come together until the 11th hour!

I do apologize for this quality and location of this photo, but to be honest it was taken at the UPS store before I packaged everthing up and sent it on it's way! Again there is LOTS of sponging and destressing on this project. It is also a hybrid project , meaning I combined My Digital Studio with trational paper crafting. I altered my photo in MDS using several of the Vintage Overlays and then typed the words "You're Amazing" over top. I actually used the colour picking tool in MDS and took the colour from my daughter's hair for the words. All the edges of the canvas were sponged with Soft Suede Ink and on the bottom left corner I stencil one of the imagaes from the Elegant Trio Stencils using Blushing Bride Ink.

Here are a few close ups of the project:

The flower was created by cutting some Very Vanilla Ribbon with the Tasterful Trim Die and then using my Heat Tool to seal and wrinkle the edges. I then sponged it with Blushing Bride Classic Ink.

The photo was mounted on a piece of Presto Patterns Designer Series Paper that had been sponged with Soft Suede and Blushing Bride Inks as well as spritzed with Smooth Spritz Spray in Vanilla Shimmer. I also stenciled the Flower image again using Peach Parfait on the DSP. A lot of times people will ask me wher my inspiration comes from and to be honest for this project I kept hearing the Lyrics from the Bruno Mars song "Just the way You Are".

Artisan Award Winning Project #4 Blog Hop Day 4

So we are now on day four of our fun little hop through this year's Stampin' Up! Artisan Award winning projects (as if you didn't know that from the title, lol).  You should have arrived here from the talented Laura Mellinger's blog, and if not there is a full list of all of the blog's at the end of this post:)

Today I decide to share another one of my scrapbook pages. I really love how this page turned out and it was the second projects that I had completed. These pictures just crack me up. I have very few photos of my son as he usually never stands still long enough for me to get a good one. Or I end up with one that has him making faces in it-BOYS!

This photo was taken the same time as the ones that I used for the last page that I posted. As you can tell he was a pirate for halloween last year and we had a lot of fun creating a beard for him out of coffee grounds.

 
 There is so much going on, on this page that I would have to babble more then I usually do, to explain it all:) Let's just that there is lots of destressing and sponging, misting and crumpling, sanding and even some cutting out! (I really do not enjoy fussy cutting). For the title I actually cut out the letter "X" from the Newsprint Designer Series paper and I created the "treasure map" also using this DSP and some Very Vanilla card stock. The journaling was created in My Digital Studio and I used the Extreme Elements stamp brush (in MDS) to create a background then typed the journalling. There is even a little sewing on this one! I am not a sewer;I am a wanna be sewer, so thank you to my wonderful downline and friend Leigha for helping me with this one (she was so patient showing me what to do).

 The bottom two photos were matted on More Mustard then Basic Gray Card stock. The DSP behind the photos is from First Edition and it was stamped with images from Extreme Elements and Artistic Etchings. Then of course destressed!
